Q+A with Series Six Business Owner, Sami Maurer

You may already be familiar with the stylish, retro-style apparel sold by the locally-loved Series Six shop, but did you know they have a collection of shirts sold with a portion of the proceeds given back to organizations in the St. Louis area? And we are one of those organizations! In the coming weeks, Series Six will be releasing a custom shirt design for the Dogtown St. Patrick’s Day Irish Festival. So, while you anticipate the next piece of green in your closet, learn a little bit more about Series Six and its founder Sami Maurer.

How did Series Six come to be? What does the name of your company mean?
I first started the idea for Series Six while studying graphic design and business at Spring Hill College in Alabama. I noticed a lot of southern inspired t-shirts being worn around campus and I wanted to bring something similar back to St. Louis. I designed my first shirt as a summer passion project and slowly grew my business as a side hustle after college until taking it on full-time. The name Series Six has a personal connection to me, as six has always been a family number and one my dad, brother and I all wore on various sports teams. The number six also has a St. Louis connection through Stan the Man and the historic game six of the World Series.

Can you talk more about your design process?
Our designs are inspired by the city of St. Louis as well as vintage and retro design elements. We create the majority of our designs in Adobe Illustrator and transfer in some of the more hand drawn elements.

Tell us more about the idea behind the support local collection?
The Support Local Series started a few years ago with our Charity T-Shirt of the Month initiative and has grown significantly over the past few years. At the beginning of COVID we added a Restaurant Series to this collection that supports over thirty local restaurants in the area. To date we have raised over $200,000 for local charities and restaurants through this campaign.

What do you love the most about St. Louis?
There is a lot I love about St. Louis - the sports, restaurants and many neighborhoods but my favorite thing is how proud St. Louisans are to be from here and continue to spread the love for St. Louis.

Do you have a favorite Dogtown St. Patrick's Day memory?
I have really enjoyed being part of the parade and walking the streets of Tamm Ave tossing out candy and koozies. It is truly one of my favorite days of the year and I can't wait to be back!
