In the mid-1800s, the neighborhood of St. Louis known as “Dogtown” was a clay and coal mining community. The term “Dogtown” was widely used at the time to describe a group of shelters around mines, so this is likely how our neighborhood came to be known as such today.

  • The Dogtown area is located south of Forest Park and includes four neighborhoods of St. Louis:

  • Clayton-Tamm

  • Franz Park

  • Hi-Pointe

  • Cheltenham

  • Ellendale (eastern portion)
