In the mid-1800s, the neighborhood of St. Louis known as “Dogtown” was a clay and coal mining community. The term “Dogtown” was widely used at the time to describe a group of shelters around mines, so this is likely how our neighborhood came to be known as such today.
The Dogtown area is located south of Forest Park and includes four neighborhoods of St. Louis:
Clayton-Tamm
Franz Park
Hi-Pointe
Cheltenham
Ellendale (eastern portion)
