The Dogtown community is made up of several neighborhoods in the 24th Ward in the city of St. Louis. There are many legends and stories that claim how Dogtown received its name. Here what the Dogtown Historical Society has to say about it.

In addition to living in a beautifully mature neighborhood, Dogtown residents are walking distances from schools, churches, restaurants, child care, and of course, Forest Park.

how to be a good neighbor

Here are some ways you can improve the Dogtown community.

Get to know your neighbors
Visit our events page to find upcoming activities in the neighborhood where you can meet your neighbors.
Be involved with your neighborhood associations
Local law enforcement officials attend many of the neighborhood meetings, and those meetings are great opportunities to learn about crime trends, new developments, and local events.
Report suspicious activity to police
Keep the non-emergency phone number on hand, 314-231-1212, and report suspicious activity.
Clean up the neighborhood
Criminals can be attracted to neighborhoods with litter, abandoned buildings, broken windows, etc. Clean neighborhoods tell criminals that this area is engaged and active. Pick up litter on your block. Report broken windows, graffiti, damaged street lights, etc. to the Citizens Bureau
Join the Citizen’s Academy
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department hosts the Citizen’s Academy, which offers an insider’s view into the day-to-day job of a St. Louis City Police Officer and is designed to further strengthen the bond between the department and the community.
